Swimming Pool Salt: 25kg (2031)

Swimming pool salt, specifically high-purity, non-iodized sodium chloride, is used with salt chlorinators to generate chlorine via electrolysis, sanitizing water without large chemical storage. It improves water comfort and typically requires maintenance at 3000–3500 ppm, generally requiring roughly 25kg per 50,000L to raise levels by ~500 ppm.

Key Details About Pool Salt:

  • Purpose: Converts to chlorine via electrolysis, reducing the need for traditional chlorine chemicals.
  • Ideal Levels: Generally maintained between 3,000–3,500 parts per million (ppm), though some systems work with 1 gram per litre.
  • Usage: It is recommended to add 25kg per 50,000L of water to raise levels by roughly 500 ppm.
  • Application: Pour salt directly into the pool, ideally in the shallow end, and run the pump for 24 hours to dissolve.
  • Maintenance: Check salt levels twice a month, and clean chlorinator cells to prevent calcium build up and corrosion.
  • Benefits: Offers a more comfortable, softer swimming experience compared to traditional chlorine pools.

What to Look For:

  • Purity: Ensure the salt is food-grade or specifically for pools (99.9% pure) to avoid contaminants.
  • Non-Iodized: Use only non-iodized salt to prevent water discolouration.

It is recommended to test your water first and avoid over-adding salt, as too much can cause corrosive conditions.
